Day for a Sail - Christiansted Harbor 1979
This 20" x 40" oil was painted in 1979. The view is from the old Christiansted
Fort (the color of the fort was red back then). It captured the sailboats in
the Christiansted Harbor at the time. The Hotel on the Cay was lush and green
and a very famous schooner boat, "The Bounty" was captured leaving the harbor.
All the boats where real and I'll bet some will remember the Chinese Junk boat
that was anchored at the dock.

Green Cay located due north from my painting spot. Green Cay is a protected
island and iguana live there. The picture of Green Cay ties back in to
the painting of Judith's Fancy to make this a 360 degrees view of St. Croix
from a spot on the eastern end of the island.

Buck Island and Green Cay are looking north from my painting spot. Buck
Island is St. Croix's vacationing treasure as tourists take trips there
daily. There is an underwater national park there, and snorkeling is the
way to see the underwater park.

Mount Washington - Looking East, St. Croix, USVI
Looking directly west is Mount Washington in the distance. Beyond this
mountain is Point Udal, famed as the most eastern point in the United States.
The terrain on the east side of this mountain is an arid climate with cactus
plants and dessert like fauna. Quite a contrast from the west end of the
island which is tropical rain forest.

Great Salt Pond - South, St Croix, USVI
This view is looking south to the Salt Pond. An old tanker was caught
out there on the reef for years and years, but finally broke loose from
hurricane Hugo. Looking down on the community called Catherine's Rest and
following the road around towards the east end of the island.

Lowry Hill is the closest land to my paint spot, a old dirt road just
after you rounded the turn with Lowry Hill to your left. The cows grazed
in this green pasture wandering their way from the south shore dairy farm.
This view is looking southwest towards Hess Oil Refinery.

West to Judith's Fancy, St. Croix, USVI
Looking all the was west to Judith's Fancy some familiar landmarks and
the VI Power Plant and "St. Croix by the Sea" Hotel. The sunset is turning
the sky a rosy pink color. This painting connects around to the Green Cay
painting near the radio tower at altuna lagoon.
